How to become a Wedding Celebrant

Becoming a Wedding Celebrant takes a lot longer than most think (it’s a fair bit more expensive, too).

First thing you’ll need to do is find an RTO (Registered Training Organisation) who provides a Cert IV in Celebrancy. This is a relatively easy task – there’s a whole bunch out there.

Most of these courses run somewhere in the vicinity of $1000 to $2000, and can take upwards of a year to complete.

The subjects that will take the most amount of time will be learning the legal aspects of becoming a Celebrant, and filming yourself officiating mock wedding ceremonies (often you’ll have to film 4 or 5 mock ceremonies with different case studies with volunteers in attendance).

Once completed, you will need to apply to become a Celebrant. This takes up to six months to be registered and currently costs $400.

If you wish to continue being a Celebrant, you’ll need to complete five hours of OPD (Online Professional Development, and also pay an annual registration fee of $170.

My Celebrant Buddy forgoes the need for you to qualify and study to become a Celebrant. All of the legal paperwork is taken care of. Lessons are also provided which help you build the ceremony from start to finish.

Plus, you’ll have the support of one of Australia’s most popular Celebrant for 24 x 7 support.

And it starts from as little $590 (plus $59 GST) in Victoria and $790 (plus $79 GST) for the rest of Australia.
